Everyday hundreds of tons of plastic bags are thrown away in the streets of Bangladesh. Discarded plastic bags are washed down to the river, drainage system and ultimately blocking the city drainage systems. During rainy season, clogged up drainage lines are errupted with human waste, which pollutes the city roads and alley.
Every year this types of problem getting bigger and bigger. Meaning we do not have a proper plan to reduce, recycle, reuse plastic materials. If we have plan and action, then handling discarded plastic bags would be so much easier for us and it would not have been washed up on streets and riverbeds.
Here in outskirt of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Area called “Kamrangirchar” has the most recycling factories located. Hundreds of female worker sort and wash plastic bags and get them ready for pelletizing. The plastic bag has reached the last stage of its lifecycle, and it cannot be made to high value product. Rubber factories in Dhaka, collect them from suppliers and with numerous additive synthetic rubber sheets are made for footwear, bag-luggage, carry bag, cattle farm floor mat etc.
Now imagine if virgin grade pellet was used for manufacturing synthetic rubber, then co2 emission would skyrocket and discarded plastic bags would fill up the landfill, sewerage system, riverbed, ocean floor.
